Holly, John, Gracie and Hattie play as a family, and learn as a family.

John and Holly take care of three children living at home, have busy jobs and work hard to fit teaching opportunities into their active lives. Gracie is seven, Hattie is nine and Nick is 15, so finding an activity they all enjoy together can be a challenge. How do they do it? Through play! The board game Apples to Apples teaches the younger kids about adjectives and descriptions, and reinforces the importance of being silly and spending quality time together. Gracie gets a big smile on her face when she realizes she gets to be the judge for this round, listening to her family’s descriptions and deciding who has the best card. She’s having fun and learning because her parents know that time is precious and they can teach their kids every day, everywhere through books, stories, song, and play.
