NEWPORT — Early childhood education has become an increasingly larger focus among state and local educators as they point to building stronger foundations for learning.
To add to that focus, Umpqua Bank, the Oregon Education Investment Board and Governor John Kitzhaber have teamed together for a new statewide literacy campaign, stORytime, that is working to get more books in kids’ hands and promote playing, talking, singing and reading with children.
“The really positive thing about reading to children is that is their base for learning,” said Corrina Hargett, Newport’s Cubby Preschool director.
